My work in this lab goes beyond just a profession—it’s at the very core of who I am. Each day, I dive into the challenges and excitement of scientific discovery, troubleshooting experiments, brainstorming fresh project ideas, mentoring my team, and pushing the boundaries of our understanding of traumatic brain injury and epilepsy. I stay actively engaged with my team, asking questions like, "How many cells did you patch today?" or "How’s the two-photon imaging going?" to ensure steady progress and keep the energy flowing throughout every aspect of our research. My passion for neuroscience is deeply rooted in understanding the mechanisms of traumatic brain injury and epilepsy. I’m particularly fascinated by how neuronal excitability, plasticity, and spreading depolarizations contribute to seizure susceptibility and long-term neurological outcomes. The potential to translate these findings into better treatments and interventions drives my enthusiasm for this work. Mentoring is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work, and I take it to heart. I’m committed to creating an environment where trainees not only build technical skills but also develop confidence, critical thinking, and independence. I guide them through every stage of the research process, and in return, their energy, curiosity, and fresh perspectives fuel my inspiration and motivation. To be honest, it's their drive and enthusiasm that keep me energized and focused every day. Collaboration is at the heart of my research. I work closely with other Principal Investigators across disciplines, bringing together diverse expertise to tackle complex questions in neuroscience. I’m always open to new collaborations that align with my research interests and push the boundaries of what we can achieve together. Outside the lab, I find balance by immersing myself in nature—camping, disconnecting, and recharging in the outdoors. And when I need an instant energy boost? You’ll find me dancing to loud music, letting loose, and embracing the moment.
